Mike Cattermole

LONDON / RP. Horse racing commentator. Channel 4, Sky Sports, AtTheRaces,

Mike is a racing journalist, commentator and presenter working for Channel 4, AtTheRaces, and he' one of the hosts of Sky Sports News.

He' had an avid interest in horse racing since childhood and has worked professionally in the field since 1984 when he joined the mecca of racing analysis and journalism, Timeform, working with his current Channel 4 colleague Jim McGrath.  He also worked on the national daily The Sporting Life until 1998, and was a jockey' agent to Willie Carson from 1989-1994 during the era of Nashwan, Salsabil, Shadayid, Erhaab and the great Dayjur.  It was towards the end of this period that he began racecourse commentating, which he still does for Racetech at courses around the UK.

Mike' first television experience was gained on Sky' Racing Channel (1995-2002) and he was signed by Channel 4 in 1999 to work as both a commentator and presenter.  Sky' Racing Channel was replaced by AtTheRaces in 2002 and Mike presented the first ever transmission in May of that year.

His voice work to date includes corporate recordings for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), and commercials for Transport For London and Expedia.co.uk.

Mike is the co-author of two books about top jockeys, Joe Mercer - the Pictorial Biography published in 1987 and Nothing To Hide, about Edward Hide, in 1989.  Mike is also a director of Racing Welfare and the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, and retains a link with the London Racing Club, which he chaired until recently.  He also enjoys golf, tennis and skiing.
